Get your kicks!
I recently invited Darren & Abi to jam with Strange Ray Vintage and shoot some stock! I stumbled across their gorgeous Instagram account which showcases stunning photograph’s they capture together in their everyday adventures, and I was hooked. I adore the retro tone and attention to details in their snaps, so this was something that I knew they would have a treat with at Strange Ray. We shot in and around my home and it was a gorgeous day so we took ourselves out into a crisp autumn day to be wild hippies and scare my neighbours!
So, I should probably take this moment to address the subtle, wallflower that is my WILD 1970s retro tiger pattern couches! How good right? I got these a few weeks ago and they have totally spiced up my life! Absolute bargain too, I love a good haggle but genuinely could not afford a brand new settee so when I found these crackers within my budget it was a sign from the heavens (or hell!) and I had to have ‘em….and they’re right at home!
And that was just the after party…we listened to The Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Jimi Hendrix and kept refreshed on my left over Malbec before heading down to The Duchess of Kirkcaldy for a well deserved Sunday Roast + large glass of red for the team!
Gold Dust Woman
Abi wore a stunning white embroidered sherwani tunic dress with intricate details in pistachio and terracotta tones, with a rusty red genuine suede fringed jacket (now sold) and a beautiful velvet carpet style purse with chain handle. The hat and sandals styled with this bohemian dream are modern pieces; Strange Ray Vintage loves to mix genuine vintage key garments with modern basics & accessories - inject some vintage into your wardrobe and reduce your ‘disposable fashion’.
Black Magic Woman
I wore the ultimate Stevie Nicks style black pagan dress (now sold) with gold embroidery - how good is that jagged hemline!? I’m so pleased we got to shoot this beauty in all it’s glory and I will forever cherish these images. It’s real’ tough selling vintage treasures sometimes because you have to let some special pieces go, however I like to think of vintage clothing like we don’t ever own them; they have simply came into our lives for a good time and to be lived in, then pass ‘em on for someone else to enjoy. Just make sure they’re gonna love them as much as you did! This gorgeous one went to Sofie, who fell in love with it at a Strange Ray Vintage pop-up at Little Lies, Dundee - and I’m so glad it went to lovely new home.
Foxy Lady
Alice brought that fire in a pair of vintage 1970s orange velvet trousers with a ranchwear gold lurex long sleeve top and a black and tan etched genuine leather purse. This opulent pair pop off each other perfectly and who doesn’t need a pair of burnt orange velvet flares in their life? We styled this outfit with a modern lurex turban and gold glam-rock boots to bring an electric edge to this look.
And that’s a wrap! Thank you for checking out my new blog and supporting Strange Ray Vintage in the very early stages of this brand - I can't wait to bring you more inspiring content and vintage goodies to shop from my archive of treasures. Next shoot is in a couple of weeks (can’t wait) so stay tuned for a new blog + new stock dropping every week on ASOS Marketplace and Depop!
